Money Talk! Do you want to build a snowman?

What do they say? Three’s the charm. So here’s to Journal #3. Welcome to the “Health is Wealth” series. Today we will focus on financial health. Which means….This is “Money Talk with MM”
As mentioned in Journal entry #2 “Are you ready to read with MM” ( If you didn’t read it make sure you check it out) October 2020 I started getting laser focused on some of my goals. One of those areas that I focused on was my financial goals.
Now listennnn…I am sure that many can relate to being told to never talk about your finances. I completely understand why we were told this. However I do think that there are exceptions to this.
- We should have healthy conversations about money
- We should educate each other about money
- We should share only what we feel comfortable doing so
So now that I have set my boundaries and yall know what to expect from me let’s get started!
October I sat down took a deep breath and wrote out all my finances. Now it wasn’t the act of writing them down that made me have to take a deep breath. It was the fact that I knew I was getting ready to get…
I N T E N T I O N A L (Let’s be real…Intentional is as scary as the word commitment. Just me?…… Ok)
I don’t know if I am the only one but I mark my calendar for those rare months where I get an “Extra” check. Now for those of you that don’t get paid weekly or bi-weekly …sorry this one isn’t for you. But since I have started working post college I have always looked out for the months with 5 Fridays! For me looking at my larger bills in one lump sum gives me the shakes. So I pay my rent and my car note every pay period to ease those hits. During those months where I get 3 checks I add my bi weekly rent payment + my bi weekly car payment = what I paid towards debt that month.
That October I used that extra money to pay down some of my debt, made a debt payment plan using the “Snowball Method”.

By the end of the year I paid off a credit card. If I wasn’t being intentional that debt would have carried over into the new year. I brought that same mindset with me into 2021 and have paid off more than $5,000 in debt including two credit cards.
Pause…..let’s take a deep breath! Don’t get overwhelmed by this information. The key is to start where you can when you can and I am about to show you how.
LET’S GO!
A lot of people get stuck on paying debt because they feel like they don’t have a lot of money. Believe me…..I FEEL YOU! But my rule of thumb is that a little goes a long way. Also you will be one step closer by putting even $20 a month towards debt than no money! Every dollar makes a difference.
I am no financial advisor and I am learning right there with each of you. But this is what has been working for me. Be sure to check out my Instagram page @theemultimaven as I drop different tips on some “Finance Fridays”.
I hope you enjoyed your first “Money Talk with MM”. I can’t wait to share more about my debt free journey! If you are with me along the journey let me know!
Until Next Time,

So insightful. Definitely going to look more in the Snowball method to get some of these credit cards paid off! ๐
